Considerations when choosing a carpet.
Purchasing a carpet can be a confusing process. It's not something many people do regularly, and as a result it is easy for some consumers to become overwhelmed by all the considerations, and therefore end up with a carpet that might not suit their needs.
As such, we've chosen our top considerations to think about when choosing a carpet.
What do you want your carpet to look like?
There's so much choice when it comes to carpets nowadays! Different colours, patterns & manufacturing styles all have an impact on the overall look and result of a room once a carpet is fitted. Colour is often one of the hardest decisions when it comes to choosing a carpet. It can be tough to visualise your room with a small space. Generally speaking, darker colours work best in well-trodden thoroughfares, whilst lighter colours lend themselves to bedrooms and quieter spaces. Neutral colours are the biggest sellers in carpeting currently, with earthy hues, warm greys and the ever popular beige taking centre stage. If you want to add personality despite a neutral colour, try a loop pile carpet with some texture to add depth and character to your carpet, whilst keeping it subtle.
Where's your carpet going to be fitted?
Where you're planning to lay your carpet and what sort of footfall it will have to endure are important factors to consider when narrowing down your options. If you're wanting a bit of luxury in the bedroom, the carpet you require would be very different to high-traffic areas such as hallways or lounges.
This is where the density, type and material of the carpet is key. A higher density carpet is going to be more resilient than a looser weave. Loop pile carpets are more hardwearing than a plush, velvet carpet, and man-made carpets can be bleach cleaned, so great if you're going to carpet an area that might get dirty.
Do you need it to be stain/odour resistant?
If your floors see more than their fair share of mess, then a stain and odour resistant carpet may be a good solution for you. These types of carpets are especially worth the investment for families with children and pets. Good carpet care and maintenance are a requirement to maintain the overall look and condition of your carpet, and hard-wearing, stain-resistant, bleach cleanable carpets are great for these heavy use homes.
What's your budget?
Costs can vary from a very affordable £8 per square metre for a simple synthetic carpet to over £100 per square metre for a premium hand-woven design. It's important to accurately measure your required carpet size so you can price it accordingly. Awkward shaped spaces such as hallways and staircases may sometimes require more or less carpet than you think, therefore accurate measuring is a must. Fortunately, we offer a complimentary measuring service, so if you're confused about the size of carpet you require, please contact us and a member of our friendly team will be able to assist you. If you're visiting the showroom, it's a good idea to bring some measurements of your own so we can get an idea of the overall cost of your project.
Have a look.
When choosing a carpet, we believe it's important to see a product with your own eyes & recommend viewing it in the light it will be fitted before buying it. As such, we recommend coming to visit our showroom on Christchurch high street, where we have hundreds of carpet samples for you to browse. You can also take them away with you to choose which you prefer in your own home.
